LOOKS OR LOVE?

(click the title above)
CHANGING THE FACE OF BEAUTY

There is no doubt that the road to love town often ends up as a ‘showdown’ when we forget that good looks don't equate to good love.

A woman I know told me that looks weren't important to her as she only wanted a good man with sense of humour. She had one, but let him go. When I asked what happened, she told me that he just wasn't the look that she would normally go for. What she said she wanted and what she really wanted were two different things.

So when I hear women say they are looking for a man with a sense of humour, the cynical part of me emerges, as I don’t often see women trampling over Brad Pitt to get to Dani Devito (who from all accounts isn’t a bad catch – funny, committed, loyal and kind)!

When it comes to a good relationship the real question is… what have good looks got to do with good love?

BEAUTY LIES IN THE POWER OF THOUGHT

(Click the title above)
CHANGING THE FACE OF BEAUTY

To experience beauty on the outside is to first find it on the inside; for if we don’t go within we will always go without.

The concept of ‘beauty’ has been complicated and yet in truth it is simple - it requires nothing; it doesn’t need to be created or manufactured; it’s there in every minute for us to enjoy; and all we have to do is feel it.

Yet so many of us have an excuse as to why we can’t have beauty, but to make a change we need to focus on why beauty is already a real and living part of our lives.

The key is thought.

Think of it like this…putting the wrong key in a lock won’t open the door. That door will stay locked no matter how you struggle, force or push it. Yet put in the right key and the door opens willingly.

Thought is the key that can unlock the way you feel about yourself, for beauty has very little to do with our bone structure, but more to do with the structure of our thoughts.

You have the power to unlock your beauty
So from this day forward
Open it
Start to live it
Never excuse who you are
Reach out
Touch life with your body
Embrace life with your mind
Remember your beauty with your thoughts &
Feel it with your heart

Stay Blessed...Gregory

ITS NOT ABOUT DEATH ITS ABOUT LIFE!

(click the title above)
CHANGING THE FACE OF BEAUTY

Last week there were so many celebrity deaths, but I also lost a friend to cancer the week before.

Coping with death is never easy. It brings an incredible sense of loss and sadness, but it also brings with it the strongest reminder to live a full life, to make the most of each day and to ensure that we share best of who we are.

Michael Jackson shared his musical skills, Farrah her acting and unforgettable smile, and my dear friend Bev, her kindness, humour and passion for yoga. We all have something to share that can touch the lives of people around us.

Listening to so many talk about death, I believe that while it is extremely sad, the greater sadness comes from not living the life we know we can while we are here.

‘When we don’t share the best of ourselves, the world becomes a lot less.’

Stay blessed....Gregory

WHEN A MAN’S BAD BEHAVIOR CAN BE FORGIVEN BY A GOOD WOMAN!

(click the title above)CHANGING THE FACE OF BEAUTY

I heard this joke the other day and thought I’d share it as it highlights some values that are worth reflecting on.

John wakes up at home with a huge hangover. He forces himself to open his eyes and the first thing he sees are a couple of Panadol and a glass of water on the beside table.

He sits up and sees his clothing all laid out, clean and pressed. He looks around the room and finds it in perfect order, spotlessly clean.

He takes the tablets and notices a note on the sidetable. ‘Honey, breakfast is on the stove, I left early to do some shopping. Love you.’

So he goes to the kitchen and sure enough, there is a hot breakfast and the morning newspaper.

His daughter is also sitting at the table, eating her breakfast. Puzzled, John asks his daughter, "What is going on?"

She told him, “Well dad, last night you came home at 3am drunk and delirious. You broke some furniture, puked in the hallway, and gave yourself a black eye when you stumbled into the door.”

“So why is everything spotless, and why is your mother being so nice to me?”

“Well, when you got in, mum dragged you to the bedroom and as she tried to take your pants off, you starting pushing her away, shouting, ‘Please lady, leave me alone, I am married!’”

When I heard this joke I couldn't stop laughing!

It is such a wonderful reminder that when there is commitment, honesty and trust in a relationship, just about everything else is forgivable.

Keep the light shining on the love.

SAY IT OFTEN

(click the title)
CHANGING THE FACE OF BEAUTY

I spoke with a friend of mine recently who has always loved his wife, but somehow never got around to telling her that. The day she left he said the words that he had long forgotten to say and that she had always longed to hear, but it was too late.

Telling someone we love them is something we often put off; like that phone call we think about making but never do, or the dinner catch up we have talked about for ages, but somehow can’t find just the right time to schedule it.

Our intention is good but we become distracted with so many things in our lives; we wait for the right moment, the right sunset or the right restaurant.

But what I have learnt is that there is never a wrong moment to say ‘I love you’. Yet everyday that we put off saying it is a day wasted; a lost opportunity to let someone know we care and that they matter.

YOUR BOOTY OR YOUR BEAUTY

(click the title)
CHANGING THE FACE OF BEAUTY

With all the scary ‘before and after’ shots we are exposed to, surgeons knives all over the world are cutting deep into areas where no one has dared to venture…but instead of reducing, there is a new part ripe for inflation.

Red hot right now the latest trend is bum augmentation. Bums are the new boobs. Yep... ‘Boob jobs’ are yesterday’s news. Don’t laugh. Sales of bum implants are on the rise, so forget about those bum crunches or throwing out those clothes that you thought made your bum look big.

Big is back and women can choose from a variety of implant sizes.

A recent report stated that manufacturers are ecstatic as they have produced really good silicone implants for the buttocks. These hyper enthused manufacturers and surgeons obviously don’t have enough to be excited about, because putting some man-made plastic crap into a good woman’s bum is nothing to be jumping up and down about.

Funnily enough, I never knew that bums were out of fashion!! But despite what most women think, I don’t believe their bum was given to them to create misery.

So not surprisingly when I shared this news with a group of friends recently, every guy grimaced at the thought of something hard and man made in their women’s butt…after all, Real men believe in keeping it real, soft and warm.

FAT FAT FAT - WHO CARES ABOUT THAT?

(click the title)
CHANGING THE FACE OF BEAUTY

Fat has become one of the scariest things on the planet.

We have all done it. You get out of bed, stand in front of the mirror and promise yourself, ‘Today I will be good. No sweets, no chocolate, no cake.’ And before you know it the calorie counting food fight begins.

Day after day we continue to swallow the big fat lie that beauty is the domain of bone thin supermodels and movie stars.

In the fashion industry I have seen women living on cigarettes and caffeine to stay thin. I have seen others surviving on lettuce leaves and water, and some that simply eat what ever they want, only to throw it up straight after.

Sometimes the concept of what makes us beautiful is so unrealistic and lopsided that many people convince themselves that obsessively counting calories and torturing themselves with food is normal…and just what they have to do. It’s not!

What we often forget is to count our blessings for everything that simply makes us human.

LOOKING GOOD!

(click the title)
CHANGING THE FACE OF BEAUTY

Last week, while being interviewed about my latest book, a journalist asked me about the importance of looking good in today's world.

My answer was simple.

'We all want to look as good as we can for as long as we can, but in reality, we are all given 5 minutes of grace to wow people with our fancy smells, latest fashion accessory and funky hair style...and after that the truth of who we are is revealed and the only thing that truly counts is the spirit of our humanity.

A BRAZILIAN IS ESSENTIAL! I DON’T THINK SO…

(click the title)CHANGING THE FACE OF BEAUTY

They say men are from Mars and when it comes to what we expect in the way of ‘grooming’ from our partners, perhaps we are!

A friend of mine was having a bad hair day and I am not talking about the hair on her head! She was in an absolute panic because her guy was returning home from a business trip and she didn’t get the chance to have a Brazilian!

I asked her, ‘Why are you panicking? Did he tell you that he finds it unattractive?

Her response was, ‘No I just know he prefers it.’

What women think men want and what they actually want are very different things.

Unless your hair is so unruly that it is violating the local council’s zoning laws, then it’s not a problem for real men.

And another thing - this fixation with pubic hair seems a little one sided. You don’t see men panicking about having the Sunga, the male version of having hair removed from the chest, crack, back and sack! (To be suggested if a Brazilian is ever recommended to you by any man!)

To be honest I am sure your partner would love a plane trip to Rio, but that doesn’t require you to go to Brazil!

Remember that Real men love Real Women and don’t expect them to look like prepubescent girls!

So if it comes to a choice between Brazil or Real, I’d say Keep It REAL every time!

THE BEAUTY IN CARING AND SHARING

(click the title)CHANGING THE FACE OF BEAUTY
When someone we love leaves our lives or lets us down we respond in the same way as we do to a sad movie. We cry, because that is what happens when we care, when we love and when we are hurt.

When our child is wrongly accused of doing something, when our best friend's marriage ends or we lose a parent or a pet, something inside of us hurts. We feel a sense of compassion, sometimes a feeling of helplessness as we try to find the best way to support them. These are the qualities in the deepest part of everyone’s heart we all share.

This is why we are human; because we are humane. This is what enables us to help someone up when they are down, to wipe a friend’s tears when they don’t have the strength to wipe their own, or to simply hug someone when there are no words to comfort them. These are the things that not only make each person beautiful, they make the world we live in more beautiful, for there is no greater power in the world than love.
.
And while we can give these qualities to others, it is important to recognise that we are all worthy of receiving this level of compassion from those around us and more importantly, extending heartfelt kindness to ourselves.

‘When we show kindness it is a form of blindness, for it touches the heart in places our eyes cannot see.’

10 THINGS NO-ONE CAN TAKE AWAY FROM YOU

(click the title)
CHANGING THE FACE OF BEAUTY

Today I spoke with a woman who has lost faith in herself and believes that she has so little that is worthwhile in her life.

I think she reminded me of how easy it is for us to focus on what we don't have and forget about what we do.

While there are many things in life that can be taken away and are beyond our control, we need to remember that there are many things that no-one can take away.

10 THINGS NO-ONE CAN TAKE AWAY FROM A WOMAN
YOUR PERSONALITY
YOUR BELIEFS
YOUR SMILE
YOUR SOUL
YOUR DREAMS
YOUR MEMORIES
YOUR WILLINGNESS TO LOVE
YOUR ABILITY TO SING IN THE SHOWER
YOUR PASSION FOR LIFE

LOOKISM GONE MAD!

(click the title)
CHANGING THE FACE OF BEAUTY

You may have heard about the attack by the Editor of British Vogue, Alexandra Shulman, on leading design houses for their production of samples so small that magazines were forced to use size zero models to fit into them.

According to Shulman, this practice needs to stop, as readers were no longer interested in seeing photos of girls who make ‘normal’ models look oversized.

As someone who has worked in the fashion and beauty industry for many years I believe this approach is to be applauded, but for it to have any traction it must be echoed in fashion circles around the world.

My question is… 'WHAT HAS BEAUTY GOT TO DO WITH GROWN WOMEN FITTING INTO CHILDREN'S SIZED CLOTHING?'

When is a woman beautiful enough, young enough or thin enough?

So much of what we are doing to the human body is unashamedly irrational. Look at how many people are suffering from eating disorders. Children as young as five are starving themselves to death, models are willingly going without food in an attempt to stay slim, and many are obsessed with following them as part of the size zero craze.

When will we all stand up and say ‘no’ to this ridiculous trend that says women are more beautiful when their bodies look like prepubescent boys? Doesn’t it seem ironic that we worry endlessly about what goes into our mouths and are preoccupied with counting calories, yet we continue to swallow the big fat beauty lie that says that our value and self worth are related to the numbers on a scale. It is a total farce.

I think the world needs more heroes, not size zeros!

'We are all born beautiful, but it is our responsibility to cultivate our beauty and keep it alive.'

WHO CARES ABOUT BODY SHAPE CATEGORIES!

(click the heading)CHANGING THE FACE OF BEAUTY
I came across an article that broke women's body shapes into four categories and provided some advice on how they could help themselves...

"THE CONE can achieve symmetry by building up their leg muscles.

THE HOUR GLASS must avoid weight training to prevent bulking up.

THE RULER must focus on building muscles on the side of their back.

THE SPOON should do lots of cardio to keep hips and thighs at bay."

These ‘pearls of wisdom’ were followed by a short quiz which included uplifting thoughts such as … ‘Which celebrity would you like to look like?’ and ‘If you could change one body part what would it be?

All I can say is… ‘HOW THE HELL CAN ANYONE BREAK WOMEN DOWN INTO FOUR CATEGORIES?’

This article is screaming judge yourself, pull yourself together quickly and get on to changing what’s wrong immediately, as there isn’t a moment to waste!
We are all so much more than the size and shape of our bodies, and none of us were made by Mattel. (Besides if Barbie is so perfect why do you have to buy her friends?)

There is nothing positive or even real about this article. So please, use a spoon to eat your favourite cake, an hour glass to let you know when your boiled eggs are ready, a cone to fill with some ice cream and that ruler to smack the idiot that came up with these categories!

TOES OR SHOES – YOU CHOOSE!

(click the title)
CHANGING THE FACE OF BEAUTY!
In an attempt to have perfect toe cleavage some women are heading to orthopedic surgeons to correct their feet so that they can fit into Manolo Blahnik shoes. In some cases women are having parts of their toes cut off to fit into the latest stilettos.

But advocates for the procedure say that critics simply do not understand the importance of high heels. At a cost of US$2500 per toe and collagen injections into the balls of the feet to restore padding lost from years of wearing high heels at US$500 each, this is a serious investment in shoe candy.

‘Take your average woman and give her heels instead of flats and she will suddenly get whistles on the street', said Dr Levine. ‘I do everything I can to get them back into their shoes.’

Forget about getting women back in their shoes. I don't know where Dr Levine is coming from, but from where I stand I think she needs help, and I don’t mean help getting her shoes on! And as I said to a woman who was considering it, 'Leave your tootsies alone! By all means cut your toe nails, but there is no need to cut your toes off.

For the record, men love women in heels, flats, bedsocks and even bare feet!

REAL MEN SAY ‘NO’ TO MODEL IMAGES!

(click the heading)
CHANGING THE FACE OF BEAUTY

Images of beauty have been used to sell everything from cars to ice cream. Cosmetic houses built their names on them, magazines fill their pages with them and companies sell their products with them. Beauty is big business. No doubt about it - big bucks have always equaled big beauty.

While I have spent my career in the world of fashion and beauty witnessing women across the globe willing to compare themselves to air brushed stylised images, today I had to smile at what I see emerging as we start to look for something more than a two dimensional image. Yesterday as I walked through a department store I saw two men standing in front of a cosmetic counter.

This is somewhat unusual, and being constantly fascinated with people’s reaction to beauty, I stood and listened. Turned out they were looking at an advertising image of one of the latest release perfumes. The one guy said, ‘Wow, she is hot!’ But the other guy said, ‘She doesn't look real. I wouldn’t trade my girl in for that card board cut out.’

That made me smile.

Beauty as we know it is changing quicker than I can type this sentence and its narrow, limiting definition is no longer working. The new BEAUTY is here and is changing our lives, urging us to remember that B.E.A.U.T.Y. is not exclusive to models and movie stars, but inclusive of every woman (and man) regardless of their age, shape or size.

Real Men, love Real Women. Be beautiful be free…

GRIMSHAW VS RAMSAY...BEAUTY VS THE BEAST!

(Click the title)
CHANGING THE FACE OF BEAUTY CAN BE A BATTLE!Many of you will have read about Gordon Ramsay’s scathing attack on one of our most genuine and talented TV journalists, Tracey Grimshaw, this week. Undoubtedly, his comments reveal so much more about him than they could ever about her.

I personally believe that Real Men, love Real Women. They don’t insult them, humiliate them or break them down. Obviously Mr Ramsay is nobody’s idea of a real man!

He told her she needed Botox…and I don’t need to repeat the rest. But as appalling as his outburst was, this attitude reflects a broader trend that is becoming common place in our world.

Extreme gravity reversal is scary. With all the harrowing make-overs and surgery takeovers, body anxiety in this age of physical perfection can be pretty daunting. All of us like to look our best, but when is enough, enough?

I am not against cosmetic surgery, but recently I was standing in line at a bank in LA and the teller yelled out, ‘Next’, and so I nudged the lady in front of me. Turns out she was a glamour-puss grandma who had dozed off, but I didn’t know because she had so little skin left around her eyes that she couldn’t close them!

We have seen beautiful women destroy themselves with cosmetic surgery overdoses; replacing, enhancing, pulling, stretching and pumping their faces with Botox until they barely recognise themselves.

It's time we said ‘Enough already!’

Without doubt there is enormous pressure to conform to society’s perception that ‘youth equals beauty’, but the only way we are going to relieve this pressure valve is for people to remember that they are beautiful at every stage of their lives.

As human beings we are all meant to be different. When we can accept this truth, we will no longer hurt ourselves or others for the simple things that make us human.’

LIFE IS YOUR PARTY – CELEBRATE IT!

(click the title)

To Change the Face of BEAUTY...

Live by your truth,

Leave the past behind,

Forgive with your heart (not your head),

Love openly and honestly,

Laugh deliciously and

Feel what you feel, so you can heal.
Above all remember that there are no mistakes,

Only life lessons that help you get clear about who you are,

What you want, and more importantly what you don’t.

So never regret anything that made you laugh or cry.

After all, tears are drops of love

That soften the heart and make love welcome.

You may have read recently about Bill Gates urging fellow billionaires to give away most of their wealth to make the world a better place. I think this is truly admirable and there should be more of it. But relatively speaking, there are only a handful of people like Bill and Warren, and while we don’t all have billions of dollars to change the world, I believe we all have an incredible ability to make a difference in people’s lives.

We touch them with our spirits, our kindness, our generosity and more than that, our humanity.

But the truth is, some days we feel more giving than others, and there are days when many of us feel that we don’t have much to give. When I have these days I try to remember something of what Mother Teresa used to say… ‘When you feel hungry feed someone or when you feel lonely hug someone’.

It is simple acts of kindness that have power, magic and healing and that bring beauty to the world. And while many of us are givers; to our children, our partners, our homes and our friends, it is easy to forget to give to ourselves.

YOU CULTIVATE BEAUTY BY REMEMBERING YOUR HUMANNESS, YOUR GOODNESS, CELEBRATING THE BEST IN YOURSELF AND OFFERING THAT TO THE WORLD.

OLD STYLE BEAUTY IS GETTING ITS ARSE KICKED!

CHANGING THE FACE OF BEAUTY

Beauty is a strange phenomenon. it is advertised and glamorised as physical perfection that can seduce, charm and overpower.

I can see why women believe that men want perfection; we want the perfect wax job on our car, to catch the perfect wave or have our team perform for the perfect touchdown. But when it comes to women we see perfect beauty when she reveals her true self.

While shooting a campaign on the Greek islands I met a woman in her late sixties who exemplified perfect beauty in its truest form. During the day she would swim and sun bake on the nude beach and in the evenings she would dance with wild abandon. She had a lover who was thirty who had eyes only for her, and when she walked into any room, she lit it up, merely with the fullness of her presence.

Often when I tell this story, women look at me skeptically and ask me if she had had a lot of work done! Of course they are referring to cosmetic surgery. This woman hadn't had any, nor was she a wealthy socialite. She had wrinkles, her breasts were not as perky as those of a twenty year old and gravity had taken its natural course. But she was truly beautiful. Her wit, freedom and self acceptance were inspiringly beautiful!

We assume that to reveal ourselves so openly to the world that we must be picture perfect. Yet the fear of age was not limiting her life. To her it was not about a number, a dress size or a firm body part - it was all about her attitude. Instead of the 'old beauty' having power over her, she was empowering everyone around her by the truth of beauty- what is good, what matters, what doesn’t anymore, what never did, and what will from here on in.

We just need to look around to see that the old definition of beauty and what women think men want is getting its arse kicked by the truth of BEAUTY.

Never forget,
'You are whole and beautiful
For no other reason than you are a woman.'

Be beautiful be free…

CHANGING THE FACE OF BEAUTY

Today is the launch of the Changing the Face of B.E.A.U.T.Y. Campaign.

As you may recall, I contacted many of you recently to ask if you would like to be part of Changing the Face of BEAUTY. I did not do this randomly, but because I believe you are each women who can make a difference; who can help others remember the truth of their beauty. In other words you are role models for real B.E.A.U.T.Y.

There is no doubt REAL beauty is gaining strength, as I look around me at many women who are living fully and joyfully with themselves and others. Yet, there is still much to do. The other day I visited a 10 year old girl who is close to losing her life as a result of an eating disorder and I realised once again that to stop the ‘beauty lie’ that says we need to look a certain way to be valued, accepted and loved, we need to work together.

Changing the Face of BEAUTY is not just a nice idea. In some cases it will save lives, in every case it will save hearts and spirits. When our world reaches a point where the BEAUTY Lie is not just hurting adults, but our children, it is time to take action. And while this has become a social and cultural issue, I believe we can make a difference. After all the greatest water falls start with one drop and if we are to believe that the world’s concept of beauty can change then we must be that change and live it.

As a role model for REAL beauty, make the decision each day to live as fully and peacefully as you know how, and to never settle for anything less than in your heart you know you deserve.

Thank you for supporting Changing the Face of B.E.A.U.T.Y. (CTFOB). I would ask that you forward the CTFOB Blog to women you believe are role models, along with anyone who would enjoy a positive beauty reminder each day.

Stay blessed
