As we live in a time when it seems that there is no part of the human body that cannot be nipped, tucked, sucked and plucked in attempt to be body perfect, it seems that the knives have turned to animals. (Not referring to people who behave like animals, but our pooches.)
In Europe, Brazil and the United States cosmetic surgery for our four legged friends is the latest fad.
In Los Angeles pet pooches are having eye tucks, wart removals and…hold your breath…even face lifts. As one LA veterinary nurse said, “A woman who has gone under extensive surgery to look good, certainly doesn’t want people to think her dog is ugly!”
In Brazil, Edgado Brito is advancing the practice of pet surgery. He can make protruding ears droop and straighten bent ears using metacril and botox. He even tightens the mammillae of female dogs after they have had pups. Brito believes that animal heath is his top concern, but that beauty also is important to the animals well being; as if the owner thinks the dog is attractive, the relationship is better!
If I was this guy I would be less concerned about the relationship owners have with their dogs and focus on fixing the disturbed relationship that he has with himself!
It’s bad enough that people are going under the knife to fix what they believe is wrong, but for goodness sake, leave the animals alone.
