FROM DARK TO LIGHT

CHANGING THE FACE OF BEAUTY

Last night I did what I do at the end of most days, I went to the gym. On the way I turned the radio on in the car and heard about the types of things we hear just about every day…a woman who had died while undergoing liposuction; a child who had lost consciousness while being beaten by school peers; a model who had died from hunger; a gunman who opened fire on innocent people; a woman suing her employers for sexism; a teenage girl who took her life because she was bullied; yet another round of racist riots; and the latest environmental disaster that is polluting our world.

There is a daily cycle in my life where my mind and emotions are coloured with both light and dark. My inner world affects my outer world and what I have come to understand is that sometimes our daily challenge is to shine light where there is darkness; to look for the right where there is so much wrong; to search for the victory where there appears to be failure; and more importantly to try and make sense of the nonsense in our world.

At the end of the day the greatest challenge becomes accepting that while there are many situations where we can find the light, bring light and even ignite light, sometimes we need to accept the darkness as part of the world we live in, knowing that part of life’s mysteries and human behaviour can never be explained.

When we walk with love in our own heart we will never walk in darkness
